Reddit can feel productive because there is always another useful thread, answer, or niche community. That is also why Reddit sessions stretch. If you want to spend less time on Reddit, the goal is to preserve intentional reading while cutting automatic feed browsing.
Start With Screen Time
Open Settings > Screen Time > App Limits and add Reddit. Set a daily limit that still allows your useful communities but makes long browsing sessions visible.
If you use Reddit in a browser, add limits for both the Reddit app and reddit.com. Otherwise, the habit simply moves.
Make Reddit Sessions Visible
Sandflow tracks Reddit with a live timer. Once connected through Shortcuts, the timer starts when Reddit opens and stops when it closes. Dynamic Island and Live Activities make the session length visible while you are still reading.
That matters because Reddit overuse often hides inside comment threads. You do not feel like you are scrolling fast, but time still disappears.
Replace The Home Feed
Use Reddit with a destination. Open a specific subreddit, search a specific question, or check a saved thread. Avoid opening the home feed when you are bored.
You can also turn off trending and recommendation notifications. Most Reddit alerts are invitations to re-enter a feed you did not choose.
A Conscious Reddit Routine
Before opening Reddit, ask: "What am I here to read?" If there is no answer, wait. If there is an answer, open Reddit with Sandflow running and close it when the timer reaches your planned session length.
Reddit gets easier to manage when each visit has a purpose.
